LETTER: Edward Jones, Gelligrin, to George Bettiss, Caernarfon. The tenants of Gelligrin and Gallt y Calch have right of common and turbary on Gwyllt Tecwyn, which is being enclosed to the loss of Lord Newborough’s property. Annexed: LETTER (2 January 1824): William Elias, at the Abbey, to George Bettiss, with particulars of enclosures at Gwyllt Tecwyn. Brown’s information was scanty, but Elias’ father-in-law says the right of Gelligrin and Gallt y Calch is unlimited. The tenants prefer it should not be enclosed because of the difficulty of valuation. Mr. Oakeley has enclosed to his property a long time ago and cut off the road to Lord Newborough’s farms, but has done no other harm. One of his Lordship’s other farms have rights in Llandecwyn. The timber rafts from Beaumaris [Biwmares] are in the river, which is very flooded today. He has given notice of rent days at Dwygyfylchi and Conwy.
