LETTER: Farrars and Co., Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, to George Bettiss, Caernarfon, regretting that dissatisfaction had been expressed at the amount of Lord Newborough’s subscription to the Market House but stating that the trustees did not feel justified in increasing it. They thought that the tenant had better send someone on horseback from the farms to ask for the key from Mr. Assheton Smith and then return to the farm. He need not be uneasy about the evidence of the tenant offering to pay an acknowledgement as it would not affect the question. He was mistaken about the plaintiff being non-suited if the cause be removed and the damages being under £10. The only consequence would be that the plaintiff would not recover his costs. They feared that what passed on the enclosure would be against Lord Newborough as if a claim had been made then of a right over Mr. Smith’s road it would have been given. The expense of taking witnesses and the probable propriety were to be considered. They had not yet decided about removing the case to Shrewsbury but it would not be tried at those Assizes. They ask for a copy of the Inclosure Act. [N.L.W. Glynllivon 2988]
