LETTER: John Pownall, Staple Inn, [London], to Lord Newborough and acknowledging receipt of cheque for £40 which he will use to settle some tradesmen’s accounts. He discusses wages and terms of employment of his employees. Mr. Chiappini is going in one of Sir Robert Preston’s boats, although others have been in the Downes already; he does however not want to go against Mr. Coutts’ advice to use a Preston ship. [N.L.W.
