LETTER: W.L. Farrer, 66 Lincolns Inn Fields, [London], to Lord Newborough, enclosing a letter from Mr Teesdale. A jury would award Lord Newborough but a small sum for the Lord [?land]. Appended: LETTER (2 December 1844) in reply to above. His Lordship feels entitled to at least as much as Sir Richard Bulkeley receives annually for South Stack rock, but would forego the compound interest, and discusses methods of assessing an acceptable figure. Enclosed: COPY LETTER (15 November 1844): John Teesdale, Fenchurch St., [London], to W.L. Farrer. Land taken for the lighthouse keepers’ dwellings and gardens should be paid for at a price consistent with land-values on Bardsey. Mr Owen’s extraordinary claim for £9800 plus compound interest, making £19000 in all, astonished the Board of Trinity House. He believes that Farrer and his Lordship would not support this claim, and trusts the amount he is empowered to consent to will be accepted, namely £516.14.7d. If declined, the Board would purchase only the land for the lighthouse, under the provisions of the last Lighthouses Act.
