LETTER: Thomas Dyke, Lennox Place, Brighton, to Lord Newborough informing his Lordship that he had received a letter from Mr. Slater demanding immediate payment of £123.3.6d. which was a third of Mr. Stephens’ taxed costs for a suit in Chancery instituted by Mr. Stephens against them, the former trustees of the Shroder Trust. He had replied expressing his surprise and belief that when his Lordship and himself had invested their proportions of the £2000 trust as desired by Messrs. Dickson the payment of so large a sum on account of costs incurred in a suit in Chancery in which they had no personal interest. Mr. Slater also said that he had been preparing his costs as solicitor for the old trustees for matters he had been conducting on their behalf since they retired from the trustees: the Caernarfon bank was pressing Mr. Shearman for payment of his bond and would have to call on Mr. Dyke and Lord Newborough for payment of their shares. He asks his Lordship what he intended to do about the demand for so large a sum for costs. [N.L.W. Glynllivon 2717.]
