LETTER: A. Chiappini, Cape Town, to [Rev. W.] Wilkin, [Hay, co. Brecon], asking how he feels about "that piece of Performance of our Mad Sister" in the Morning Chronicle and Times. He is determined that "that Mad Demon" will make a full recantation and apology in the papers. He encloses copies of his letters to Lord Newborough [see below] and the "Marchioness of the Infernal Regions" [not present]. Appended: LETTER (4 July 1825): A. Chiappini to his sister [Mrs. Wilkins] explaining that he is not sending a copy of his letter to "Sister Sternberg", as it contains certain circumstantial evidence he does not wish to reveal. He has told her he has old documents in her hand which would, if revealed, fall on her head like a thunderbolt. Italian, with English translation. Enclosed: COPY LETTER (27 June 1825): A. C[hiappini], Cape Town, to Lord Newborough. He has heard of the deranged state of mind of his sister, his Lordship’s mother, but after having read something in the Morning Chronicle about her and the scandalous and disgraceful reflections on their family he does not feel she is totally bereft of her senses. It is a pity his Lordship and Mr. Wilkins have not had her confined to a place of safety. He has asked his brother Thomas in Italy to do something, but wishes his Lordship to secure her under his roof.
