LETTER: David Lloyd to Roger Salesbury, Esq., Rug. The rent roll sent from Chancery values R.S.’s mills at £40, but they cannot really be valued at over £30, and no substantial farmer can be found to give so much. Some wellwishers no longer bring their grist as they do not believe he gets the benefit, and he is therefore advised to farm them himself in future, when the old customers will return. He will try to farm them to him for £30 despite the Chancery valuation, and will exercise great caution. Necessary repairs are to be deducted out of profits, but they are in very good condition. A schedule of the mills’ profits, 1700-l905 is included. Endorsed: NOTE (30 November 1706) signed by D.Ll. that he has (as Agent and Receiver of the estate devised by Owen Salsbury, Esq., for raising portions to his daus.) set all the mills on the said estate to R.S. for one year for £30. [N.L.W. Rug 972.]
