CORRESPONDENCE FILE relating to the foreshore of the Menai Strait at Siliwen, Bangor. The papers mostly relate to difficulties and queries concerning the Bangor (No. 1) Compulsory Purchase Order 1965 on nos. 1,2,3 and 4 Old Baths Cottages, Siliwen, resolved in 1972 by a Clearance Order. The correspondence is between the Town Clerk of Bangor Council, the Welsh Office, and the solicitors for the owners. There is also correspondence between the Council and a Mr. F. Gledhill of Welsh Seafoods Ltd, a subsidiary of Severnside Foods Ltd., regarding oyster growing on the foreshore and the upkeep of a cottage. Also included are two letters from Mrs. O. E. Hughes of Siliwen Road, concerned about the activities of the Severnside Mussel Company at Siliwen, and about the possible redevelopment of the area. Enclosed: CLEARANCE ORDER (No. 1), 1972, on nos. 1,2,3 and 4 Old Baths Cottages, Bangor, confirmed by the Secretary of State on 27 March 1973 Plan [2 copies] REPORT [c. 1973] on a proposal for a development of the Siliwen foreshore, including a 200 bed hotel, a high point block of 132 luxury flats, studio apartments, mews cottages, a yacht basin, university marine biology department, and a public promenade.
