X/POOLE/2339

COPY CASE of the Earl of Uxbridge with the opinion of Mr. Manley. Recites details of a lease 1768, Sir Nicholas Bayley, Bart., to Morris Williams of Caymawr, parish of Llanddeiniolen, co. Caernarfon, yeoman, of a half share in a house and land called Caymawr, parish of Llanddeiniolen, for seven years. The lessee held the other moiety as his own inheritance. The farm was bounded by a large common out of which Morris Williams attached some closes taken from the common to his farm. Recites details of leases of these closes. They were held exclusively by Morris Williams. It is feared that he will assert that he took them from the waste with the consent of the Lord of the manor of Dinorwig, but no courts have been held for this manor and no manorial steward has been recorded with Quarter Sessions as is customary. The Earl of Uxbridge succeeded to the property of Sir Nicholas Bayley but he has had no share in these enclosures of the common or received compensation for trees felled, etc. Asks if he has the right to recover two other closes or reduce them to common land as they were originally. The matter is complicated because a common recovery has already been suffered on the close called Maes Meddygon.

Page Language

In accord with normal archival practice in Wales, details of documents are presented in the language of the document. Where details appear in Welsh, then Welsh is the language in which the document is written; where they are in English, the document is in English.
