X/POOLE/791

COPY LETTER: Charles S. Murdoch, Secretary of State, Home Office, Whitehall to the clerk to the Standing Joint Committee of Caernarfonshire. They have considered the county council’s plans for creating a special police district at Bethesda because of the riots and disturbances there [during the Penrhyn Strike]. They comment on certain points in the report of the enquiry. They point out that the new district would have a low rateable value and that it would not correspond to existing parish or petty sessional boundaries. Also they stress that this is only a temporary measure. Bethesda and the Bethesda Urban District have already petitioned against the proposals. He asks for the Joint Committee’s observations on these points.

In accord with normal archival practice in Wales, details of documents are presented in the language of the document. Where details appear in Welsh, then Welsh is the language in which the document is written; where they are in English, the document is in English.
