X/POOLE/716

DRAFT PETITION to the House of Commons of the gentlemen, clergymen and freeholders of the county of Merioneth [Meirionydd]. They point out that the agriculture in the county depends on the use of lime, carried by water at considerable expense. Coal and other substances are also imported for the purpose of burning the limestone. The use of this as manure is hindered by the prohibitive cost of customs duties in addition to the considerable freight charge. The county is very dependant on agriculture. They ask, therefore, for these commodities carried coastwise to be relieved from duty.

Page Language

In accord with normal archival practice in Wales, details of documents are presented in the language of the document. Where details appear in Welsh, then Welsh is the language in which the document is written; where they are in English, the document is in English.
