X/POOLE/335

COPY LETTER: Edward Griffith of Caernarfon to Capt. Hooper of the Dragoons at Bangor. At the Union ale house he understands a great deal of drinking, smoking and discussion has been going on and resolutions have been passed re the Dragoons. He understands 2 bailiffs of Caernarfon summoned the meeting. They had no authority to do so. They should have called a meeting of the Burgesses in the Guild Hall in a "decent house". The first he knew of the matter was when the Bailiffs requested him to keep the troop in Caernarfon. He told them it was too late. Arrangements have already been made for their removal but he would take action if there was any real danger of a disturbance. In spite of this the meeting was held. He does not expect him to pay attention to such irregular proceedings.

Page Language

In accord with normal archival practice in Wales, details of documents are presented in the language of the document. Where details appear in Welsh, then Welsh is the language in which the document is written; where they are in English, the document is in English.
