BUNDLE OF ITEMS (4) concerning the Charity Commission. LETTER (4 May 1871): W.G. Hayter, Registrar, Charity Commission, 8 York St., St. James’ Sq., London, to the Minister and Churchwardens, Llanllechid, Bangor. He informs them that no accounts of the Llanllechid parochial charities have yet been received. He encloses a copy of the statutes which demand this. Enclosed: COPY CIRCULAR concerning presentation of charity accounts. Printed. LETTER (4 December 1873) the Secretary, Charity Commission, 8 York St., St. James’ Sq., London, to the Ven. Archdeacon Evans, The Rectory, Llanllechid, Bangor. He suggests that the objectives of the trust would be more effectively fulfilled by providing decent accommodation for a small number of deserving poor, rather than by distributing gifts of money to a large number, therefore the trustees are advised to retain the property in question. If the surveyor’s report shows that the cottages can be kept in repair at a reasonable cost, the trustees should undertake to house a deserving member of the poor. CUTTING (November 1878) from the "Standard" concerning the Conference of Poor-law Guardians held in the Guildhall, Exeter. The confiscation of charity endowments for the funding of education under the Endowed Schools Act 1869 is unjustified. Sir Stafford Northcote maintains that although the endorsements have been mal-administered and taken for granted, this does not justify confiscation. The money needs to be effectively administered and the deserving poor protected by law against false claimants. Printed.
