LETTER: [John] Jones, Penybryn, [Edern] to his brother Mr. Hugh Jones, schoolmaster, Augusta, State of Georgia, North Amertca. Received letter 10 Nov.1792 informing them of the death of his son Harry. Received letter dated 11th March 1793 returning from Bala Association. Feared to read of death of his wife The pleurisy has killed vast numbers in Anglesey. J.J. has been ill in London for three weeks. Brother Owen and Evan married when J.J. was in London; Owen’s girl from Drws-y-Coed - he lives in Amlwch still.working in Parish [Parys] mountain. Brother Evan married a girl from Caernarfon. Her parents live in Pool Street. Her name is Margaret Jones. They have a son John. Evan lives with their father and mother in Pwllheli. The writer intends to assist them with money. He would like to see ’Huwcyn Bach’ back in Wales. He is afraid to invite him now because of the present troubles between Britain and France. He hopes for peace. God visited his neighbours. It has had a profound effect upon the children, weeping bitterly for their sins etc. There is a Methodist Chapel in Caernarfon at [Penrallt]. Mr. Rice who lives in Charleston’s father’s house is the house next to it; there is another built in Bangor Street by the Dissenters. John Humphrey the butcher died in Caernarfon. It is only half a year since he married one of the daughters of John Jones Glan’a Mon. ArIminian makes a very bad sound with them in Wales. A discourse then follows on Wesleyanism versus Calvinism. Their parents were at his house yesterday morning H. J. is mistaken thinking they live at Penybryn as they live in Caernarfon. They send their blessing to N.J. and his family. He would write a better letter in Welsh since he has little practice in English.
