COPY LETTER: W.E. Morris, Harbour Office, Porthmadog, stating that he has paid £330. 10s. 3d. to his credit at the National Provincial Bank on account of Harbour Dues for the quarter ending 31 Ded. 1882, also £45 rent of Embankment Gate due 12 Feb. 1883. He is afraid that he will be money on the [tolls] and so asks whether he could have the gate for £160 next year. The Bala-Trawsfynydd Railway has much reduced the number of carts passing through. The shipment of slates is progressing for the Hamburg and Baltic trade which is their principal stronghold as no railways can touch that trade. The bad weather has caused further damage to the ballast bank which needs to be repaired.
