When this collection was deposited the archival order was non existant. Some reconstruction of individual estates and cases has been carried out, but it was a long and difficult task. Therefore aost of the material has been sorted into document type, such as title deeds, wills and legal papers, and a careful search will be required. From internal investigation the collection is of E.M. Roberts, solicitor of Pwllheli. It appears from sources such as directories, newspapers census and voting records that he worked between 1859-1870. His last recorded court appearance seems to have been in March 1870. Be does not appear on the voting registry for 1870 and was not on the 1871 census or in Vorrall’s directory. No trace could be found of his death so it is Pre sumed that he moved out of the area. There is also a difficulty in dating his arrival. There is no official record of him in the 1858/9 directory. However internal evidence shows accounts dating from 1851 and correspondence from 1854. Also the earlier papers relate to Cyril isilliams, Solicitor and Notary at Pwllheli. These records begin in 1840. Cyril Villirns died on the 6 April 1859 and it seems likely that E.M. Roberts took over at this point, or when Cyril Williams retired. No official record of this can be found. However there is a receipt of 1851 (m 7744/6/4), for an account of work carried out by E.M. Roberts for Cyril Williams. This may indicate that Roberts was working for Williams at that date.
