LETTER: William P. Burke, St. Carthace’s, Lismore, co. Wexford, to [William] Rochfort, re three 18th century wills which he cannot find, in particular that of the last of the old line which gives a curious picture of the ancient Jacobite dying in Paris lodgings. When he died there was a grand Messe solemnelle at the Lombard College during the Revolution. The Irish priests there were arrested for holding a public function, not having taken the oath of allegience to the Republic. They escaped by pleading that they were British subjects. 2 copies.
